Dollhouse Has Been Canceled by Fox After Posting Low Ratings for Season Two
Dollhouse has been canceled by Fox. Dollhouse was canceled by Fox after posting low ratings again in season two, and when the current run of episodes is over the show will be pulled from television. That Dollhouse was canceled won't come as a surprise to fans or producers of the show, but that still doesn't mean that people are going to be happy that Dollhouse was canceled. The show had been suffering through some low ratings for the second straight season, and Fox decided that it was finally time to pull the plug on the show and go in a different direction for the time slot. Dollhouse stars Eliza Dushku in the character of Echo, who works in a futuristic lab-type location, where she is imprinted with a new identity weekly to go on assignments. She takes down "bad-guys" every week, and gets to role-play nearly every episode. The show was created by Joss Whedon (of Buffy fame) and seemed to be kept around for the second season because Fox wanted to help the show succeed on the air. Unfortunately it just didn't work out in the end, as the show got mired in low ratings and wasn't able to pull out of the freefall in the number of viewers heading into the middle of its second season. The first season of Dollhouse was last spring, when Fox aired Dollhouse as a short run series to see if it would take hold. The ratings weren't great, but Fox brought back Dollhouse for a second season due to its originality and the hope that it could pick up some more viewers. The show wasn't able to do that, and actually has been on hiatus during the month of November because Fox didn't want to risk low ratings numbers in that time slot during sweeps weeks. The show was scheduled to be back in December, and will probably come back with double episode nights in order to work through the remaining episodes they have in the vault.According to Nielsen ratings, Dollhouse averaged just over four million viewers per episode in season one, placing it as the 132nd rated show. This season the ratings have dropped to an average of 2.26 million, which is near the bottom of shows that air on any of the major networks. It is believed that Dollhouse will still air all of the episodes that have been ordered for season two, and that will give Joss Whedon and crew enough time to get a decent series finale written and produced for the show.

The sci-fi series, which is filming episode 11, will finish its 13-episode order.
"Yes. Canceled. Sad but true," tweeted Maurissa Tancharoen, a writer on "Dollhouse" who is married to Whedon's brother Jed Whedon, also a writer on the show.
Beating the odds after a very slow start last spring, "Dollhouse" was renewed for a second season. But with a dismal performance this fall -- and despite getting a ratings bump from DVR viewing -- the show starring Eliza Dushku was benched for November sweeps after four episodes.
Fox plans to air all produced episodes of "Dollhouse," which will return with originals Dec. 4 as planned. Whedon is working on giving the series a proper ending with a big finale.
"I feel the show is getting better pretty much every week, and I think you'll agree in the coming months," Whedon wrote on Whedonesque.com. "I'm grateful that we got to put it on, and then come back and put it on again."

Whedon, who had been rumored to be working on a sequel to the Emmy-winning Internet project, said on Wednesday he is "off to pursue internet ventures/binge drinking" following the end of the Fox series.

Fox already has picked up breakout freshman dramedy "Glee" for a full season, while sophomore drama "Lie to Me" is waiting for an episodic order after receiving an order for three additional scripts last month. Freshman comedy "Brothers" is also still awaiting its fate, but its chances don't look good.
